Fibromyalgia

The main characteristic of fibromyalgia is the presence of widespread chronic pain, with an absence of inflammation and/or latent degenerative processes. The latest research shows how poor processing of the painful stimulus results in central sensitisation.

THE MAIN SYMPTOMS THAT OCCUR WITHIN FIBROMYALGIA

Within fibromyalgia there are a number of symptoms that affect the quality of life of the sufferer, such as

  • Sleep disorders.
  • Absence of energy.
  • Cognitive disorders.
  • Digestive symptoms.
  • In the vegetative central nervous system.
  • Immunological symptoms.

Scientific studies from various countries, as well as in those carried out in our Unit, show that most of these patients also present symptoms associated with other pathologies, such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Multiple Chemical Syndrome, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Chronic Histaminosis, etc. The relationship between Central Sensitivity Syndrome and Fibromyalgia can be clearly seen.

Therefore, our patients with Fibromyalgia are studied and treated using a multidisciplinary approach, which includes Central Sensitivity Syndrome, a new concept within modern medicine.
